External Site Safety Inspection

Construction Site Safety Inspections

External Site Safety Inspection

External Site Safety Inspection, is a 3rd Party Inspection conducted on the safety of your site and workers. Sometimes an extra set of eyes from outside the box can see what others might have missed. Everybody knows construction is fast-paced, deadlines are looming, and budgets are always being reminded of. Under these circumstances, it’s easy to miss something in the realm of safety on a construction site. As per 3.5 of the regs, inspections have to be conducted. We can help.

Construction Sites

Some sectors in construction tend to get missed until an injury or workplace accident occurs. Knock on wood it doesn't happen. However, if it does, the next event that will occur is WorkSafe BC will have an Occupational Safety Officer (OSO) conduct an investigation. Together let's prevent this from happening.

Not saying by any means all contractors build homes like this. Yet the reality is some do exist and that can lead to a world of problems if you're the one whose responsibility it is to make sure the site is safe for workers, inspectors, visitors, and the public in general. Here is a prime example of a single-family residential construction site.

Issues

An External Site Safety Inspection can catch these issues and a lot more.

Workers are numbered 1 through 6 highlighted in a yellow box. While just some of the issues are lettered in a red box

Workers

All workers require Hard Hats, Reg. 8.11 as well as long pants, Reg. 8.10

In addition, all workers must wear proper CSA-approved work boots with a safety toe and bottom shank. Reg. 8.22

Workers using Air Gun Nailers and Circular Saws all need to wear Safety Glasses. Reg.8.14

Workers 4 and 6 are required to wear hearing protection when using circular saws Reg.7.7 As well these two workers should have a better setup for repetitious cutting. A table or sawhorses at a comfortable height that ensures balance lessons the risk of an ergonomics injury Reg. 4.46 to 4.53.

Reg.2.6, Reg.3.14, Reg.3.15, Reg.3.16, and Reg.3.17 Not to mention there are NO guardrails. Since workers 1 and 5 are not wearing a Fall Protection Harness and safety tied off, guardrails must be installed, Reg.4.55 Engineered scaffold installed by professionals is the safest way to go.

D) Housekeeping on this site is in much need of attention. Debris must be pick up and disposed of safely Reg.4.1, Reg.4.41,

What I can do for you

I'll conduct an External Site Safety Inspection for you. Sometimes what it takes is a fresh set of eyes, looking in from outside the box. Not to have this confused with an external COR audit. At this time, that service is not a part of this company's portfolio. The inspections I do in the Construction world are site-specific, detailed, and the documentation is easy to read. Understanding that you most likely have a CSO on-site, even we as onsite safety professionals suffer from a form of complacency as well. Things get missed. Nobody's perfect. In fact, if it was a perfect world, every OH&S Professional would be looking for a new job.

Specializing

Specializing in General Construction we are very proficient in several areas of this industry. These include but are not limited to, Single and Multi-Family Residential, Commercial Buildings, Low and High Rise Structures, and Full Site Developments. In addition, work activities where Crystalline Silica and Fall Protection are 2 of many areas we specialize in.

3rd Party Inspection

Specifically, there are two ways in which External Site Safety inspections are conducted.

  • Using a digital program that allows pictures with illustrations, a grading system for Risks and Hazards, plus a small assortment of other built-in tools.
  • Filling out a rough copy checklist, while separately taking pictures and making notes. After which a formal report is developed on my computer.

A detailed report that will be sent to you electronically is much more feasible. With more options for editing, design, and ease of displaying what needs to be shown in the inspection as a whole and in part. Starting out by using my own Daily Inspection Form that I designed, the detailed list cover just about every aspect of a construction site. In addition, other sections will be added with illustrated pictures, sub notations, and hazard reports.

Criteria

A daily rate is charged for performing construction site inspections.

Most of all, sites over 80 KM away from my office, travel time could also be included. (up to 300 km away can be traveled

All charges are subject to GST.

Once the inspection is complete, the turnaround time for a final copy to be emailed is 24 hours. (if requested a phone conversation can commence as soon as I leave the site)
